Man who murdered girlfriend in St Thomas chops the cousin in the face yesterday!
A man who is suspected to have killed his 19-year old girlfriend in Arcadia, St. Thomas on Monday has been linked to an incident on Thursday evening in which a woman was attacked and chopped in the community. The woman is said to be a cousin of the deceased.
According to reports reaching RJR News, about 7:30 p.m., the suspect, 29-year old Odaine Keyes, went to purchase phone cards from a vendor in Arcadia. However, she refused to sell him the cards.
She was chopped in the face with a machete and is being treated at hospital.
Residents of Arcadia told RJR News that they are now worried about their safety. They said on Wednesday night, a resident was driving his motorcycle when he was attacked by the suspect who used a bottle to hit him in the head. He fell from the motorcycle but managed to escape from his attacker.
The police have since said they have stepped up efforts to locate the suspect. Speaking with RJR News Friday morning, Superintendent Beau Rigabie, Commanding Officer for St. Thomas, said the police have been maintaining a presence in the community. However, he said the area is vast and the heavy vegetation is posing a challenge for the police.
Superintendent Rigabie expressed confidence that if the suspect remains in the area, the police will be able to pick him up on Friday.
He has assured residents that the police presence will be maintained until the suspect is caught. He added that he will be meeting with members of the community on Friday to discourage vigilante justice.
